SOCIETY IS CALLING is a multidisciplinary artwork combining video, movement, voice and sound. It visualizes the tension between idealized concepts of integration and the lived experience of assimilation. Through a staged progression from adaptation to self-determination, the piece reflects on the challenges of preserving individual identity within societal norms.

While integration is often associated with positive terms like diversity and equal opportunity, many people with a migration background instead experience assimilation – a process of adjustment, subordination, and alienation from one’s own identity. Constant adaptation leads to exhaustion and raises the question of whether there is space for individuality in a society that barely accepts true diversity. The piece visualizes the journey from integration through assimilation to self-determination within the boundaries set by society.
