Hi, I am Bettina. Jointly with Lorenz Potthast, I direct this initiative for more media art in Bremen’s public spaces. In cooperation with David Bartusch from the OPEN SPACE DOMSHOF team, we coordinate several activities and present them at the Domshof.
ARTWORK
ABOUT
As a curator specializing in art-in-context, I have been developing public art exhibitions centered on light and light-based media in contemporary art since 1996. My practice spans international projects, primarily focusing on Europe and Africa.
My curatorial approach is rooted in seamlessly integrating artistic and curatorial research, technical innovation, and media archaeology. I collaborate with both established artists and emerging, unexpected voices. As an academic teacher, I am dedicated to mentoring the next generation of artists and curators, guiding them as they develop their own practices.
I am particularly interested in light as the primary medium of the visual sphere. I explore lighting technology, design, digital media development, and the historical evolution of these fields. My work investigates how light shapes our imagery, perceptions, and cultural narratives.
Each project I undertake is site-specific, shaped by its unique context and community. I am committed to integrating experimental art into public spaces, connecting projects to their environments’ social, physical, and economic realities. My methodology is community-driven, emphasizing sustainable, long-term cultural impact.
Audience experience and public dialogue are central to my work. I strive to foster inclusive participation and spark meaningful conversations about the future of art and society. I value the involvement of volunteers and the importance of building audiences for media art through partnerships with schools, universities, and local organizations.
