Video Installation
2025
In the video installation several screens are deliberately staged in public space. They show rotating 3D scans of different forms of hostile architecture. By presenting various elements such as special-shaped benches or deliberately placed barriers as digital objects it makes the subtle control mechanisms visible. The installation therefore encourages a direct confrontation with the presence and effect of hostile architecture in everyday life, which is usually overlooked at first glance but is actually constant.
The installation can be understood as an artistic and socio-political intervention. It draws attention to a far-reaching strategy of social and spatial displacement of marginalised groups in urban planning. By explicitly isolating the forms of defensive architecture in public space and thus making them more visible, the installation calls for reflection on social justice. To question for whom and by whom urban space is designed and what effects this design has on marginalised groups. At the same time, it can serve as an impulse for a debate on alternative and inclusive urban planning concepts.
