Can you briefly introduce yourself and tell us something about your artistic background?
My name is Thu Giang Ngô from Vietnam. I am passionate about creating and illustrating typography using a variety of techniques, from handmade to digital in a contemporary style.
How did you get involved in the FOOTNOTES project and what attracted you to take part?
I am currently pursuing my master’s degree at HfK and have joined the EXHIBIT group, with the aim of gaining experience in creating and organizing an art exhibition. FOOTNOTES is the theme of this group show.
Regarding Footnotes, I spend a lot of time contemplating the small details around me, while also generating ideas and memories that gradually enter my mind and form a panoramic view or a complete story that we often forget amid the chaos and hustle of everyday life.
What is your contribution to FOOTNOTES?
This is the first time I have participated in an exhibition not only as an artist but also as an organizer. Therefore, it holds greater significance and responsibility.
Additionally, as part of my participation, I will present a motion Lettering piece inspired by decorative motifs I’ve collected from all over Bremen. From the perspective of someone who loves the city’s beauty and old-world charm, every corner feels poetic and evokes special emotions the moment I arrive. This work allows me to relive those feelings and transform them into art.
How did you approach the topic of “FOOTNOTES” and how does your work relate to it?
This topic is very interesting to me. It is an opportunity for me to delve into many aspects of my experience, especially when I think about my feelings and impressions of this city. In addition to the main theme of the exhibition, the location is also an element that I want to exploit. In the middle of an ancient city like a fairy tale from the past, I wonder what makes this city different from the experiences I have had anywhere else in the world? Is there anything I have missed? How can I remember and share what my eyes have seen in this beautiful place? If I introduce the city where I live and study through visual communication, what can I bring? These questions have motivated me to record and transform it into my artwork.
