Whether in design, society or technology: interesting topics often only become perceptible as soon as you look behind the surface and delve deeper. The interactions between digital surfaces and bodies are the theme of the contributions by students from the “Visual Communication” course at Hanover University of Applied Sciences and Arts, specializing in motion design. UNCERTAIN SURFACES invites you to experience moving images as a network of unstable, constantly changing layers and to discover the uncertainties, but also the creative potential of motion design.
In the session, the students will briefly present their projects and their process and then show their animations. The course UNCERTAIN SURFACES was offered by Lorenz Potthast and Nicolas Kawohl with the support of Maiken Laackmann in the summer semester 2025 at the Hanover University of Applied Sciences and Arts, degree program “Visual Communication” in Motion Design. Participating students: Alla Merkulova, Charlotte Langlois, Emily Clauß, Finja Sindemann, Jan Wittenberg, Kristina Bär, Lisa Kittelmann, Livia Lazzara, Maxima Widera, Merle Reimers, Paula Arand, Shaina Gerken, Sofia Mönninghoff, Tien Dat Tran, Vanessa Kraft, Viviana Monka, Yannick Deß.
The MEDIA ART LAB is an initiative of Bettina Pelz and Lorenz Potthast. Together with students, alumni/ae of the University of the Arts in Bremen and the Hanover University of Applied Sciences and Arts, they are developing an exhibition program that reflects the diversity of artistic forms of expression in the examination of digital media.
