This video artwork is a layered visual narrative combining real footage from the bureaucratic visa process in Tunisia with scenes of individuals who have migrated illegally in search of a better life. It reflects the emotional and psychological toll of navigating systems that determine one’s mobility and access to opportunity. The work sheds light on the contrast between dreams of freedom and the harsh realities of borders, paperwork, and structural oppression. By using filtered material, Skander confronts what many experience daily; being held back by invisible barriers while striving for dignity and a future beyond limitations.

Skander’s work explores the psychological and emotional impact of the visa process, particularly on artists. It addresses how access to opportunities is often determined by a bureaucratic system that reduces individuals to documents. The piece reflects on the invisibility imposed by borders and institutions, where artists are excluded not because of a lack of merit or vision, but because of a piece of paper they do or do not have. In this way, his work connects deeply to the theme of Invisible Cities, by revealing the unseen barriers that shape lives and mobility.
